Moldova completes EU screening on information society and media

The Republic of Moldova has successfully completed the bilateral screening process with the European Commission on Chapter 10 – Information Society and Media, marking a key milestone in its EU accession negotiations.
The meetings took place recently in Brussels and were led by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov and Secretary of State for the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, Cătălina Plinschi.
During the meetings, the authorities in Chișinău and representatives of the European Commission reviewed national legislation on information technologies, electronic communications, and media services, assessing its alignment with European standards and requirements.
Cristina Gherasimov reiterated the importance of this chapter for the country's digital development: "It includes legislation regulating information technologies, electronic communications, and media services. Implementing the policies in this chapter will boost digitalization, improve audiovisual services, and strengthen cybersecurity. All of this will help us build a modern, connected, transparent, and informed society."
According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization (MNED), Moldova has made significant progress in aligning its national legislation with the EU acquis, through the transposition of key legislative acts, such as the European Electronic Communications Code and the Roaming Regulation. These measures will allow Moldovan citizens to take advantage of “Roam Like At Home” services within the EU.
Additionally, the authorities have taken concrete steps to enhance cybersecurity and ensure greater access to government data.
The completion of the bilateral screening on this chapter marks an important step in Moldova’s European journey. The next phase will involve preparing the negotiation position for Chapter 10 and the official launch of accession talks.
