Moldova opens consulates in Chicago and Sacramento

The Republic of Moldova has recently opened General Consulates in Chicago and Sacramento, USA, to provide more accessible services to Moldovan citizens living in the United States.
These consulates will offer services such as passport issuance and renewal, notarial services, civil status documents, emergency assistance, and will promote economic and cultural relations between Moldova and the U.S.
The Sacramento General Consulate will be led by Maxim Arghir. These consular offices aim to ease the experience for Moldovans, sparing them from the need to travel long distances for official services.
"This clearly demonstrates our commitment to being closer to Moldovan citizens, wherever they may be. We will continue expanding and streamlining the consular network to better meet the needs of Moldovans worldwide," said Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, thanking U.S. authorities for their support.
Moldovans in the U.S. have warmly welcomed this initiative.
"My family and I have lived in America for 18 years, and every time we needed official documents, we had to travel long distances. Now, with the new consulate, Moldova is closer to us. This is fantastic news for all Moldovans in the western U.S.," said Pavel Celac.
"For years, we have wanted Moldova to be closer to us. Now we have a direct support point, a stronger link to our country of origin. This is an important moment for the entire Moldovan community," said Andrian Onilov, a representative of the Moldovan diaspora who has lived in the U.S. for 11 years.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, the flag of the Republic of Moldova was hoisted at the headquarters of the new General Consulate. "This is a step forward for the Moldovan community here, and I truly believe this consulate will become a second home for them," said Igor Grosu, Speaker of Parliament.
The festive atmosphere was enhanced by traditional elements – dances, national costumes, and Moldovan music.
"We promised, and we delivered! It was heartwarming to see that, thousands of miles away from our country, Moldovans are proving they can succeed anywhere without forgetting their roots. The dances, the traditional costumes, and their solidarity are living proof that we have beautiful traditions, no matter the distance. At the event in Chicago, I felt at home. I felt proud of our people who are hardworking, respected, involved in social life, and – most importantly – united," said the Speaker of Parliament.
