Over 720 thousand families received heating aid under compensation program

Over 720 thousand families, home to over 1.5 million people, received compensation for heating expenses in the cold season November 2024 - March 2025. According to the report presented by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, the Government allocated a total of 2.69 billion lei for this support program.
“The largest program administered and implemented by the government," said the minister.
Families received aid based on their heating source: over 339,000 households used solid fuel, more than 216,000 relied on gas, around 127,000 were connected to the centralized heating system, and nearly 36,400 used electricity.
According to the minister, the latest heating compensations for March are now available to citizens, with an average value of 805 lei. The support provided to the most vulnerable families reached amounts of 1,200 or even 1,400 lei.
For March, the Government spent about 578 million lei to cover these monetary compensations.
“Throughout the entire period from November 2024 to March 2025, the average compensation that a family received within the support program was 772 lei,” the minister stated.
Alexei Buzu also expressed gratitude on behalf of the government for the generous support provided by several European Union member states, including Germany, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and Slovakia. These countries contributed 1.15 billion lei, which was used by the authorities to provide heating compensation to Moldovan citizens.
“It is a large program, but we have managed to implement it successfully. We have created a transparent, simple, and comprehensive program for citizens, from which we are learning valuable lessons to improve the delivery of services to our population,” he noted.
Additionally, over 12,000 vulnerable households benefited from vouchers, each averaging over 6,000 lei, for the purchase of energy-efficient household appliances.
The government will continue to support the population. All families in the Republic of Moldova will receive electricity compensation directly on their bills until the end of this year, covering the first 100 kWh consumed monthly, with assistance from the European Union. Moreover, through recent budget amendments approved in the first reading by Parliament, local public administrations and entrepreneurs in the agri-food sector will receive additional funds to cover energy expenses.
We remind you that this year, for the first time, energy compensations were provided in monetary form directly to each eligible household via the applicant’s bank card or at the post office.
