Evghenia Guțul, released from prison, now under house arrest

The Bashkan of Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul, will be placed under house arrest for 20 days. The decision was ruled a short time ago by magistrates from the Chișinău Court based in Ciocana.
"For 2 weeks I was illegally detained in Penitentiary No. 13! I hope that the prosecutors will realize their mistake and that all those involved will be held accountable for my illegal detention and placement in the penitentiary", declared Guțul.
We remind you that Evghenia Guțul was detained on Tuesday, March 25, at Chișinău International Airport while she was trying to leave the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Law enforcement officials claim that the Bashkan tried to evade criminal prosecution.
On March 28, the Bashkan was placed in preventive arrest for 20 days, being accused of mismanagement of electoral funds, illegal financing and falsification of documents to support her electoral campaign. Evghenia Guțul rejects the charges and declares herself innocent.
