The leadership of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) will announce in the coming days whether or not it will expel Olesea Stamate from the parliamentary faction, and the decision to resign from her mandate remains at her discretion, stated PAS president and Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu.

“We had a discussion where each side presented their arguments, questions were asked, and in the coming days, a decision will be made regarding her exact status within the faction. The initiatives came from her; it’s not for anyone to say whether there were more or fewer – they were her initiatives. We are mature people, and when you make a mistake, maturity lies in acknowledging it, even if the intention was the best, but the outcome was different,” said Igor Grosu.

It should be noted that the PAS National Political Bureau decided to expel Olesea Stamate, the former head of the Parliamentary Legal, Appointments, and Immunities Commission, from the party and requested that she resign from her deputy mandate.

The scandal arose after amendments to the Amnesty Law, promoted by Olesea Stamate, allegedly made it possible for some life-sentenced prisoners to be conditionally released. In response, Stamate argued that the issue was not with the adopted amendments but with how the law was applied by the courts and the National Administration of Penitentiaries.
