Prime Minister Dorin Recean says Moldova could sign the EU Accession Treaty in 2028

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has established a new and ambitious foreign policy goal for the Republic of Moldova: to sign the Accession Treaty with the EU by 2028, which is three years earlier than the previously proposed deadline of 2030. Recean's announcement confirms ongoing unofficial discussions suggesting that Moldova may receive a more expedited path to EU membership in the coming years than originally anticipated.

During a diplomatic conference in Turkey, Dorin Recean shared with a Romanian website focused on European affairs that the Republic of Moldova aims to progress more swiftly on its European path.

"The strategic choice of the Republic of Moldova is very clear: we want to become a member of the great European family. To achieve this, we are working towards signing the accession treaty with the European Union by 2028. It’s an ambitious deadline," stated Dorin Recean.

The Prime Minister noted that Moldova has already completed the screening process for more than half of the chapters of the EU's community acquis, indicating that the negotiation process is moving forward at a steady pace.

He emphasized that the progress made by the Republic of Moldova is largely due to the unprecedented financial and political support from the European Union, as well as the efforts of the governmental and technical teams involved in this process.

According to sources in Brussels contacted by Teleradio-Moldova, the European Union is preparing for trade liberalization and the adoption of a unified community customs system by Moldova. This change would facilitate smoother transport of large cargo at the border between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.

In the interview with Calea Europeană.ro, Dorin Recean outlined the key conditions necessary for Moldova to achieve its primary foreign policy objectives: safeguarding the country from Russian influence and securing a positive outcome in this year's parliamentary elections.
