Residents of Edineț and Cupcini will get tap water thanks to a European infrastructure project

Around 26,000 residents of the municipality of Edineț and the town of Cupcini will soon have access to clean drinking water after enduring years of muddy or rusty water from their taps. Construction of a new water station has already begun, with EU support. Project managers aim to complete the work by the end of this year.

"The water quality has been poor, but moving forward, we expect it to improve, allowing us to use cleaner water in the kitchen".

"Water will be essential for us in many ways. We can drink it and wash our clothes with it. It will be wonderful for everyone, especially for children during the hot summer months when clean drinking water is crucial".

"We should have had access to clean water a long time ago. I hope we will have good water in the future," said the locals.

The project includes the construction of a new water treatment plant, a new electricity supply system, and the reconstruction of high and low-voltage electrical installations.

“In that context, we will have a new formula for providing services from the Prut to Edineț. I am confident that this investment will be for the long term. For at least the next 40 to 50 years, water and sewage supply will not be an issue for this area,” said Constantin Cojocaru, mayor of Edineț.

“This project is also a clear demonstration of Moldova’s alignment with EU standards. We are proud to support Moldova on its European path, as infrastructure like this, brings the benefits of that path closer to the people,” declared Jānis Mažeiks.

The project, valued at nearly six million euros, is part of the EU4Moldova program and is funded by the EU, the Austrian Development Agency, and the Edineț City Hall. Three years ago, 33 kilometers of aqueduct networks were repaired and expanded in Edineț.
