IGSU urges parents to ensure children's safety during Easter holidays

Students in all general education institutions in the country are on Easter vacation until April 28, and will return to classes on April 29, according to the Ministry of Education. In this context, the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) urges parents to talk to their children during this period about the dangers of fire, electricity and other risks in the home or outside.
To prevent accidents in homes and households, firefighters recommend that adults do not leave children unattended near operating electrical appliances and to prevent minors from accessing faulty devices, sockets or extension cords.
IGSU also warns about the danger of fires. Candles and tealights should not be left lit in the presence of children, and matches and lighters should be kept in inaccessible places. Minors should not be left alone in homes with open fire sources, such as stoves or cookers.
Another danger concerns outings in nature. Parents are urged not to allow children access near lakes and ponds, on construction sites or in isolated forest areas. At the same time, it is important that they are carefully supervised in kitchens, bathrooms or near windows, to prevent accidents due to falls or poisoning with dangerous substances. Sharp objects, medicines and detergents should be stored in safe places, experts warn.
IGSU urges parents and caregivers to exercise maximum responsibility and constantly talk to their children about the risks of everyday life.
