Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, on Saturday in Rome on the sidelines of the funeral of Pope Francis, spokesman Serhii Nikiforov announced.

This is the first meeting between the two presidents since the verbal disagreement at the White House.

The two presidents agreed to have further talks after the Pope's funeral ceremony at the Vatican, Sky News reported, citing Vatican sources.

Trump and Zelenskyy had a brief, face-to-face meeting in St. Peter's Basilica. According to the statement by Zelenskyy's spokesman, Serhii Nikiforov, the meeting lasted approximately 15 minutes, Unian reports.

Subsequently, the two leaders were joined by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shook hands and exchanged a few words in St. Peter's Square on Saturday, during the funeral of Pope Francis.

The gesture is symbolic amidst the trade tensions between the US and the EU, France Presse reports. However, no bilateral meeting between the US president and the European Commission president was confirmed on the sidelines of the funeral, despite the European Union having presented a series of proposals for reducing tariffs imposed by Washington since early April.
