Moldova 1 TV marks 67 years since its first broadcast

Today, April 30, 2025, the public television station Moldova 1 celebrates 67 years since its first broadcast—a defining moment for the media landscape between the Prut and the Nistru. With a history dating back to 1958, Moldova 1 is the oldest TV station in the Republic of Moldova and one of the longest-running in the region.

The first show was broadcast on April 30, 1958, at 7:00 p.m. and included a newsreel of cinematographic news entitled "Moldova Sovietică." It was followed by the film "Refrene Moldovenești" and a concert by artists from Saint Petersburg. Until 1963, the program was broadcast only a few days a week, but from that year, National Television switched to daily broadcasting.

Another important stage took place in 1974: the transition to color broadcasting. After independence, in 1992, national television became a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), marking the opening to the European media space.

During the six and a half decades, Moldova 1 witnessed and chronicled the great events in the country's history: the proclamation of independence, the first free elections, political and social reforms, but also cultural, economic and educational transformations. It provided entire generations of journalists, reporters, directors and technicians dedicated to the public mission.

The institution has undergone several reforms and transformations, which continue today, to adapt content and formats to the new demands of the audience. Moldova 1 now broadcasts both through traditional channels and online, through the moldova1.md platform and on social networks, remaining connected to the audience at home and in the diaspora.
