Victor Chirilă: Romania’s presidential election will directly impact relations with the Republic of Moldova

The outcome of the elections in Romania will directly impact the collaborative relations with the authorities in Chisinau, said the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bucharest, Victor Chirilă, during the show "Dimineata cu Radio Moldova."

According to him, the vote of voters in the Republic of Moldova is essential because it will decide the future cooperation in the field of security, the implementation of infrastructure projects and the well-being of citizens. In addition, the head of Moldovan diplomacy in Bucharest noted the importance of mobilizing voters from the Republic of Moldova with dual citizenship, which, according to the previous election experience, can influence the outcome of the elections.

The vote of voters in the Republic of Moldova will be very important for the future of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Why? Because it decides what Romania will look like in the coming years. We need a European Romania, a transatlantic, Euro-Atlantic Romania, with a very strong relationship with the United States of America. We need a Romania that will always be by the side of the Republic of Moldova, in good times and in bad. We need a Romania with which to put into practice all those projects that we have already started for road interconnection, for energy interconnection, because Romania has already become the guarantor of our energy security and economic well-being.

The European future of the Republic of Moldova also depends on this election. Romania is the most important supporter of this desire, offering our country assistance in fulfilling all the accession conditions, said the ambassador of our country in Bucharest, Victor Chirilă.

We need a president who will support us in Brussels and other European capitals to complete the accession negotiations by 2028 and to become members of the European Union by the end of this decade. We have the most experts who help us screen and prepare for accession negotiations. Without such a commitment from Romania, it would have been difficult for us to achieve these objectives.

Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova can exercise their right to vote starting today in the presidential elections in Romania. The 64 polling stations organized on the territory of the Republic of Moldova will be open for three days – Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—between 07:00 and 21:00. In the previous election, over 80,000 people from the Republic of Moldova cast their votes.
