Maia Sandu and Igor Grosu urge moldovans with dual citizenship to vote: "Let’s make our voices heard"

President Maia Sandu is encouraging Moldovans who hold Romanian citizenship to take part in the presidential elections in Romania, scheduled for May 2, 3, and 4 for those in the diaspora. She emphasized that every vote is important in shaping the future direction of Romania, which she described as "our trusted and soulful partner."

“Dear Romanians eligible to vote in the Republic of Moldova, we have the opportunity to make our voices heard – to vote in the presidential elections in Romania at any of the 64 polling stations open here,” reads a message from the head of state.

Maia Sandu emphasized that “democracy means having a say” and that every vote matters. She encouraged citizens to participate in the elections “for a democratic and European Romania.”

Igor Grosu, the Parliament Speaker of the Republic of Moldova, urged Moldovan citizens holding Romanian citizenship to vote in the presidential elections in Romania.

“We, the people of the Republic of Moldova, have an important voice in building a common European future for citizens on both sides of the Prut. Let us unite and demonstrate that we are not just passport holders, but also responsible for Romania's future,” declared Igor Grosu.

Grosu highlighted that the elections are not merely a competition but a decision about “the direction Romania will take and the strong voice it will have in the European Union to support the Republic of Moldova.”

Additionally, Igor Grosu expressed his support for Crin Antonescu, the candidate of the Romania Inainte Alliance: “In the presidential elections in Romania, we will vote for Crin Antonescu, with whom we are united in the great European political family – the European People’s Party.”

Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova can begin exercising their right to vote today, May 2, in the presidential elections in Romania. The 64 polling stations organized in the Republic of Moldova will be open for three days – Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – from 07:00 to 21:00.

To facilitate voting access, the number of polling stations has increased by five compared to the last election. The distribution is as follows: 18 polling stations in the Northern region, 38 in the Central region, and 8 in the Southern region.

Romanian citizens with valid identification can vote for one of the 11 registered candidates for President of Romania.

To ensure the safe conduct of the electoral process, the Police of the Republic of Moldova will monitor the transport of ballots and electoral documents and the security of all polling stations.
