Wearing banned May 9 symbols will result in police fines

Individuals who display prohibited badges and symbols during public gatherings on May 9, including the black-orange bicolor ribbon known as the "Saint George" ribbon and the letters "Z" and "V" linked to Russia's aggression in Ukraine, will face fines. Minister of Internal Affairs Daniela Misail-Nichitin made this statement in the show "La 360 de grade" on Radio Moldova.
Fines for violations of the law regarding symbols that promote war range from 4,500 to 30,000 lei. The Minister emphasizes that such symbols are prohibited by law and urges citizens to comply with the existing legislation.
According to the law, all symbols that incite or promote war will be sanctioned. This year, the police will enforce appropriate measures in line with the provisions of the Contravention Code for both organizers and individuals who promote these symbols.
The Minister also stated that the specialized structures within the Ministry of Internal Affairs are prepared to maintain public order and ensure the smooth conduct of all planned events for this day.
Preparations are ongoing in Chisinau for events on May 9, which will celebrate both Victory Day and Europe Day. The General Mayor, Ion Ceban, mentioned at a City Hall meeting that the rehabilitation of the "Eternitate" Memorial Complex is delayed due to bureaucratic procedures, but will be available for visitors in time for the celebrations.
Chisinau aims to be a city for everyone, and it would be ideal if each group respected diverse opinions, attitudes, and interpretations. While some works remain to be completed, they will be finished by May 9, ensuring that all visitors to the Memorial Complex find it in proper condition.
On May 9, the European City event, supported by European partners, will take place in the Great National Assembly Square. Additionally, several political parties and civic organizations have announced plans for a march and rally dedicated to Victory Day at the "Eternitate" Memorial Complex.
