Deputies honored World War II heroes. Igor Grosu: “Their sacrifice must never be forgotten”

Today, the heroes who sacrificed their lives during World War II were honored in a plenary session of Parliament. Members of Parliament observed a moment of silence, and the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, expressed gratitude to the veterans. He also symbolically recited the names of the 25 remaining living veterans.

"The largest and most devastating armed conflict in human history. Today and every day, we pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in that war. Our ancestors, grandparents, and great-grandparents gave everything so that future generations could live in peace, freedom, and prosperity. We must defend these hard-won values and remain united in service to all our citizens. We wish them good health and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their courage and sincere desire for peace. We must ensure that their sacrifice is never forgotten," stated Igor Grosu.

On May 8th, we will mark the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany's surrender, which brought an end to World War II in Europe.

Additionally, Igor Grosu highlighted that May 9th is also celebrated as Europe Day in the Republic of Moldova. "This day serves as an important reminder for us to work together to build a Europe in which the values of democracy, solidarity, and mutual respect are always upheld."

At the beginning of today’s plenary session, the Parliament Speaker announced that citizens are invited to the Great National Assembly Square on May 9th to celebrate Europe Day. Starting at 1:00 PM, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the traditions, culture, and cuisine of the European Union. A concert titled "Europe is You," featuring renowned artists, will take place at 7:00 PM. In the evening, from 9:00 PM, the Parliament building will be illuminated in the colors of the EU.

Following the Parliament Speaker's speech, the "Gloria" Choir from the "Ștefan Neaga" Center for Excellence in Artistic Education performed the national anthems of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.
