A lifer, recently released from prison, was detained again

Another person sentenced to life imprisonment but released from detention on March 24 by the Rezina court, was detained, the Police of the Republic of Moldova announced.
Officers from the Organized Crime Combating Directorate of the INI, with support from masked staff of the "Fulger" BPDS and colleagues in Anenii Noi, detained an individual who was sentenced to life in prison. This person was released from detention by the Rezina court on March 24 of this year, according to the source.
According to the police, the Nord Court of Appeal has rejected a request from Penitentiary No. 17 and has ordered the return of a 54-year-old man to detention.
In July and August of 1995, he was implicated in a series of crimes, including robberies and the murder of two brothers who were children.
As a result, he is to be returned to prison.
Based on data released last year by the Ministry of Justice, 140 individuals are currently serving life sentences in the Republic of Moldova. This figure is nearly four times higher than the number of life convicts in Romania and approximately three times higher than in the Russian Federation.
Twenty-four prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment have benefited from either release or sentence reduction due to amendments made to the Amnesty Law and the Criminal Code between 2021 and 2022. According to the National Penitentiary Administration, nine of these individuals have already been released, while the remaining 15 will continue to serve their sentences under less severe conditions until they complete a 30-year term of imprisonment.
The release of Sinigur and Radulov has triggered various reactions. The Political Party Action and Solidarity (PAS) has expelled MP Olesea Stamate, who co-authored these amendments, from the party. Experts caution that the scandal could significantly damage the government's reputation, providing the opposition with a new opportunity to criticize.
