EU Member State Ambassadors on Europe Day: We celebrate the core values that unite us

On Europe Day, ambassadors accredited in Chisinau delivered congratulatory messages to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and honored the heroes who sacrificed their lives to liberate Europe from fascism. They reiterated their support for our country and emphasized that today we celebrate the fundamental values that unite us.
The Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, said, “this year, on Europe Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the values that unite us and make us strong: peace, prosperity, and dignity”.
Today, we celebrate unity, peace and prosperity - fundamental values that unite us as we build a shared future in our great European family. The Republic of Moldova has chosen the path of European integration, democracy, the rule of law and economic development. This desire does not belong only to the political class, but reflects the willingness of the people of Moldova. It is your shared responsibility to ensure that the European path of the Republic of Moldova remains solid even after the elections this autumn. But let’s be realistic, this path requires effort, reforms, and consistent work”, said the Ambassador of the European Union to Chisinau, Jānis Mažeiks.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova shared a message stating, "Europe Day is a reminder of Ukraine's strong commitment to joining the European Union. It emphasizes that Ukraine is a part of Europe. Each EU flag held by Ukrainians symbolizes our shared future in the vast European family. Let us support this future together."
The Romanian ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, has reiterated Romania's commitment to supporting Moldova's European integration.
"Romania will continue to be the primary supporter of the Republic of Moldova's integration into the broader European family. This process is becoming increasingly tangible and aligns with the aspirations expressed by citizens on this side of the Prut River through their votes. Together, we will succeed, as we build our future in peace and honor the diversity that unites us. Europe is all of us. Europe is YOU. Happy Europe Day!" said Ambassador Cristian-Leon Țurcanu in his message.
A message was also sent to the United States Embassy in the Republic of Moldova: "We will never forget the courage and sacrifice of the American soldiers who fought heroically to liberate Europe from fascism. We also honor the sacrifices made by our allies. The freedom that previous generations fought for is invaluable. Our partners and allies must continue to strengthen their security."
Europe Day has been celebrated in the Republic of Moldova since 2006, both in Chișinău and in other localities across the country. Since 2017, the Republic of Moldova has officially observed Europe Day on May 9, rather than on May 8 as in other countries, thus establishing it as a double holiday.
Traditionally, the European City takes place in the Great National Assembly Square to mark Europe Day. Representing 19 countries, this event showcases their cultural and culinary traditions. Additionally, it features numerous projects funded by the European Union in various fields, including rural, economic, and social development, which present their activities. This year's theme is "Peace, Prosperity, Dignity - Europe is You!" Furthermore, this year also marks the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundations for the European Union.
