The reaction of Nicu Popescu to the threats of the Russian Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu has called the statements made by his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, unfriendly and incorrect, that do not correspond to reality and do not promote a fair relationship between states. The head of diplomacy in Chisinau stated on a TVR Moldova programme that contrary to Russian propaganda, our citizens are firmly choosing the European path, which ensures peace and prosperity in the country.
"We categorically refuse such insinuations, such a tone. In the inter-state relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, it is an unfair and factually incorrect statement, which is wrong for absolutely every citizen of the Republic of Moldova, who wants to preserve peace on our territory, democracy and Europeanness of our country. So, in this sense, it is an offensive statement for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, first of all", said Nicu Popescu.
On Thursday, 2 February, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov threatened the Republic of Moldova once again. In an interview, he declared that the West would prepare a similar scenario to Ukraine for Moldova.
Earlier, President Maia Sandu told politco.eu in an interview that there is a serious discussion going on about Moldova's defence capability, whether we can do it alone or whether we should be part of a larger alliance. However, Maia Sandu did not specify which alliance.
