Hearing on George Simion’s Moldova entry ban postponed

The hearing at the Chisinau Court, based in Riscani, where magistrates were set to review AUR leader George Simion's request to lift his entry ban into the Republic of Moldova, was postponed to July 2. The court will examine the legality of the decision made by the General Inspectorate for Migration, which pertains to a classified file.
George Simion was first banned from entering Moldova in 2009 after participating in a unionist demonstration.
In 2015 and 2018, he was again declared an undesirable person due to his involvement in unionist actions and was escorted to the border. The most recent extension of the ban occurred in 2024. Authorities in Chisinau cited concerns for national security and public order, but did not make the specific reasons public, as they were classified.
Additionally, Simion is also banned from entering Ukraine.
In the second round of the presidential elections held on May 18 in the Republic of Moldova, George Simion received approximately 18,870 votes, which accounts for 12% of the total. This was more than seven times lower than the number of votes received by the election winner, Nicușor Dan, who garnered 138,320 votes from Moldovans with Romanian citizenship, representing 88% of the votes.
We remind you that Nicușor Dan won the presidential elections in Romania as well, obtaining 53.60% of the valid votes cast.
