Man Utd, Spurs fight for Europa League redemption
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been a shadow of their former selves this season, with performances far below expectations in all competitions except the Europa League.
Tonight, these two English footballing giants will go head-to-head, battling for the trophy in the final in Bilbao. "Red Devils" coach Ruben Amorim remains calm ahead of the match, unlike his counterpart, Ange Postecoglou.
"It's hard to believe we'll redeem the season if we win a trophy. We have a lot of work to do to lift this club back to the top. The Europa League final is important for us and for our fans. A victory can obviously help us because it will make us stronger," states Ruben Amorim.
"Right from the start of this competition, our goal was to reach the final in Bilbao and win the trophy. So, we're focused, and we want to triumph," says Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes.
Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou's press conference was tense. Asked if his future at the club depended on the Europa League final's outcome, the Australian manager reacted angrily.
"I'm not a clown, and I never will be. You've truly disappointed me by using such terminology to describe a man who, for 26 years, without any favors from anyone, has gradually progressed to the point where he's led his team to a European final. Everything will be fine with my future. Don't stress. You can sleep soundly," asserts Postecoglou.
"I've been at this club for 10 years, and I've always wanted to win at least one trophy. I haven't won any in these 10 years, so tonight is a tremendously important match for the club and for all the players," adds Tottenham forward Heung-min Son.
Tottenham Hotspur will play without Radu Drăgușin, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and Lucas Bergvall. For Manchester United, only Lisandro Martinez is unavailable. The Europa League final will be played at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, in the Basque Country. The match kicks off at 10 PM local time.
