Illegal migration network dismantled at Moldovan-Romanian border; four foreigners arrested near the Prut

The Border Police dismantled a criminal network involved in illegal migration. Four Sri Lankan citizens, aged between 24 and 48, were apprehended while attempting to illegally cross the state border into Romania on foot near the Prut River. The group was organized by individuals who arranged the transportation of migrants from Chisinau to the border, utilizing established routes and methods to evade detection.

According to the Border Police, a vehicle used for transporting migrants was identified and detained. The car was driven by a 26-year-old Romanian citizen who admitted to participating in criminal activities by transporting migrants in exchange for money. She is part of a more extensive network of accomplices. The young woman was placed in preventive detention for 30 days, and the vehicle involved in the operation was impounded for further investigation.

Authorities are conducting additional investigations to identify other network members, including the main organizers and any potential cross-border connections. Initial indications suggest that this network has been operating for some time, coordinating the illegal passage of migrants from various countries into the European Union.

According to the Republic of Moldova's legislation, organizing illegal migration is a serious crime, punishable by imprisonment for 5 to 12 years and a fine of 6,000 to 8,000 conventional units.

Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity observed in border areas, which will strengthen national security.
