The energy agreement concluded between Bucharest and Baku would allow Moldova to import gas from Azerbaijan
The energy agreement reached between Romania and Azerbaijan is also important for the Republic of Moldova, as the gas coming through the Turkish pipeline could reach the trans-Balkan pipeline. This will allow Moldova to purchase gas from Azerbaijan as well, said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu in a TVR Moldova broadcast.
"The partnership between the Azerbaijani company Socar and the Romanian company Romgaz is strategic and very important. It was discussed not only the gas part, but also the investment part. Our pipeline (Iasi-Chisinau - editor's note) is fully operational. In the cold season we must also use reserves", commented Igor Grosu.
Two companies under Romanian state control and the Azerbaijani government signed a new contract for the supply of Azerbaijani natural gas on Friday, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced. The contract is valid from 1 April 2023 to 1 April 2024, reports G4Media.
"Regional cooperation and diversification of sources and transport routes are key principles behind projects such as the Southern Gas Corridor. Both this Corridor and the future submarine cable for the transmission of electricity produced in Azerbaijan from renewable sources, projects supported also by the European Commission, will contribute significantly to ensuring the energy security of the European Union," Klaus Iohannis wrote on Facebook after his meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.
Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu also attended the 9th Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council. "We will follow the path of diversification of energy sources for our country. I was glad to see that the strategic energy partnership between Romania and Azerbaijan has expanded. Inevitably, this partnership is to the advantage of the Republic of Moldova," the official said.
