Science in Moldova: 64 years of progress & European path
The Moldova Academy of Sciences (ASM) commemorates its 64th anniversary, celebrating over six decades of excellence in research and innovation.
The event provided an opportunity to honor the scientific community's contribution to enriching the country's scientific and cultural heritage, and to reflect on the essential role science plays in ensuring sustainable development for society.
"It is a source of pride for all of us to be part of this family of researchers, renowned scholars, people who have brought recognition to our country both regionally and internationally. We believe it is crucial for this field to be supported – it is the best way to excel and to foster the country's cultural and economic development in the long term," declared academician Alexandru Stratan.
A significant moment was the presentation of the honorary membership insignia of the Moldova Academy of Sciences to academician Nicolae Victor Zamfir, Vice-President of the Romanian Academy.
"I perceive this honor not just as personal recognition, but primarily as a symbol of the bridges of soul and spirit that connect our academic communities in a continuity rooted in shared history, in the Romanian language we faithfully serve, and in our ideals of truth and freedom," mentioned the academician from Bucharest.
"Today, we are focusing on strengthening the scientific community and advancing on our European path. We will ensure the voice of science is heard, because today, the well-being of the population depends on the level of science," stated ASM President, academician Ion Tighineanu.
MEP Maria Grapini also expressed appreciation to the scientific community in Chișinău.
"I will do everything I can, in my capacity as Vice-President of the Committee, to support, through EU budgets allocated for research, the European journey of the Republic of Moldova. If the President of the Academy spoke of two sister academies, I would wish for you to become one, but that does not depend on me."
ASM's role is to promote and support the development of science, to advise public authorities on science and technology, and to ensure the connection between the scientific community and society.
