Survey: Radio Moldova and Moldova 1 TV, leaders on the media market in the Republic of Moldova

Moldovans primarily get their news from social media, television, and online news sites, according to the latest audience study. More than half of the respondents access social media platforms daily for news, while nearly half watch television news every day. Radio remains a reliable source, maintaining a steady audience, although it is smaller compared to television and the Internet. In contrast, printed newspapers are facing a significant decline; very few people read them daily, and most respondents indicate that they no longer turn to them for information.
The survey data, released today by iData on behalf of the Center for Independent Journalism, reveals that 63% of Moldovans use social networks daily to obtain information, while 45% watch television programs. Almost one-third of respondents access news websites daily, and about 19% listen to the radio every day.
Conversely, printed newspapers and magazines are the least utilized; only 2% of respondents report reading them daily, and over 70% indicate that they never read them.
Moldova 1 TV is the most-watched TV station nationwide, with an average daily audience share of 20%. It is followed by PRO TV Chișinău, with a 12.7% share, and Jurnal TV, with a 10.3% share.
During prime time (evening slots), Moldova 1 TV ranks among the top three stations, with a share of 14.6%, closely following PRO TV Chișinău at 16% and Jurnal TV at 16.3%.
On average, Moldovans spend over 70 minutes each day watching Moldova 1 TV.

Radio Moldova is the most preferred radio station in the market, holding a dominant position with a Daily Share of 24.6%. It outperforms its competitors, including HIT FM with 14.1%, Radio Plai at 12.6%, and Radio Noroc with 12%.
Additionally, Radio Moldova's average daily listening time is 113.7 minutes, indicating strong listener loyalty and further solidifying its leadership in the industry.

Internet and social networks: A daily information source for most Moldovans
81% of Moldovans access the Internet daily, with 67.8% primarily using it for communication and socializing.
66.7% search for information that interests them personally.
65.7% read news and keep up with current affairs.
54.2% watch movies and videos.
49.3% listen to music or online radio.
38.5% use the Internet for studies and work.
Preferred news portals
Moldovans primarily get their news online from Protv.md, Stiri.md, and Point.md. The public broadcaster's website, Moldova1.md, ranks among the top 10 news portals in the country. Other frequently accessed sites include Jurnal.md, Zdg.md, and Tv8.md, while local or niche sites are accessed only occasionally.
News websites are most commonly visited in the evening, with 51% of respondents preferring this time for information, followed by 18.8% in the morning and 17.3% in the afternoon.

The primary platform for online news distribution remains Facebook, with 59.4% of users accessing news through links on the site. This is followed by direct access to websites at 33.3%, Telegram at 14.7%, TikTok at 14.5%, and Instagram at 7.8%.
Printed media
Only 0.7% of individuals read a printed newspaper daily, while nearly 75% do not read paper newspapers at all. Among those who do read newspapers, Ziarul de Garda is the most popular, with 31.8% of readers choosing it regularly, followed by Makler at 22.1% and Komsomolskaya Pravda at 16.3%.
In the magazine category, Florile Dalbe (26.1%) and Monitorul Oficial (21.1%) are the most frequently read, followed by VIP Magazin and Agricultura Moldovei. Over 43% of readers purchase magazines only occasionally, while nearly 28% do not buy magazines and do not hold subscriptions.
The preferred location for reading remains at home, with 79.8% of readers choosing this option. Only 14% read at work or school, and reading in cafés, public transport, or outdoors is almost non-existent.
This survey was conducted by iData between April 9 and 14, 2025. The sample size was 1,045 respondents, and the maximum sampling error was 2.7%.
