Moldova's "Sun Dă-i Fest" spotlights green tech & energy

The 'Sun Dă-i Fest' festival served as a vibrant hub for entrepreneurs, companies, and organizations from the green technology sector.

Visitors had the opportunity to learn about green technologies and get useful tips on how to save energy. Children engaged in educational activities, while adults gained practical insights for a more sustainable lifestyle.

The eco-friendly bicycle, a stand showcasing energy transmission to consumers, and even a remote-controlled industrial gate – these are just a few of the ecological solutions presented at the festival. These were developed by students from the Technical University.

"When an obstacle is detected, the gate stops. To demonstrate, watch: the gate has stopped. If we reconnect it and another obstacle appears, the gate will stop again. The gate itself is made of iron and features a mini electric motor, an automated system, and a transformer," explained Vasile Stici, a student.

Visitors also had the chance to discover more solutions for building energy-efficient homes using natural materials.

"We build modern, high-tech style homes using pressed straw panels. We repurpose agricultural waste, transforming it into construction material."

Attendees lauded the practical information gained at the event:

"We came with our children, and I was really glad there were activities for them too, so they could learn a bit about recycling and efficient energy use."

"It's beneficial for both children and adults. They learn new things, often reinforcing what we teach them at home."

In recent years, electricity generation capacity from renewable sources has increased almost eightfold and continues to grow.

"I want to announce that we will soon launch a second tender for electricity generation capacity from wind farms and storage batteries. All these measures, dedicated to a sustainable transition, are guided by the national integrated energy and climate plan," stated Dorin Junghietu, the Minister of Energy.

The festival, now in its ninth edition, is a testament to strong partnership, organized by UNDP Moldova in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, and supported financially by Denmark, Italy, the European Union, Norway, and Sweden.
