The Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line to be put into service by 2025

The construction works of the Vulcăneşti-Chisinau power line will end by 2025, the state secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Constantin Borosan, told a talk show on TVR Moldova. He added that the Chisinau authorities were also planning the construction of the Balti-Suceava power line.

"The construction of the Vulcănești-Chișinău power line is a major priority, aiming to reduce the current technical dependence on the Isaccea-Vulcănești line, transiting MGRES (Cuciurgan Power Plant). We plan to make 20% progress this year. The project will end in February. Mechanical resistance tests have been made for all types of pillars. In addition, of course, we fully understand that we need to increase the interconnectivity with Romania because here we are less interconnected", stated Constantin Borosan.

The Secretary of State added that following a World Bank study, they came to an agreement that the construction works of the 600 MW Back-to-Back station from Vulcănești are no longer technically and economically justified. Thus, according to him, it was decided with the development partners that the 40 million euros intended for the Back-to-Back station to be redirected to the construction of the Balti-Suceava overhead power line.

According to Constantin Borosan, the authorities are in discussions with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the European Union to redirect this funds.
