Vadul lui Vodă – a favorite summer weekend spot for Moldovans

The beach at Vadul lui Vodă was crowded with thousands of Moldovans eager to enjoy the hot day by the banks of the Nistru. Swimming, sunbathing, and, for the adventurous, a thrilling dose of water activities were all part of the Sunday experience. While the partygoers relaxed, lifeguards remained vigilant, keeping a close watch on everyone.
"We came to enjoy the beautiful weather, the warmth, and the water."
"We have nowhere else to go. Swimming pools can be a bit expensive, but here it's more affordable, and the water seems refreshing and better for us."
"We came here to celebrate my granddaughter's first birthday. We enjoyed the festivities, and today we are on the banks of the Nistru. Life is beautiful, though we often don't know how to appreciate it."
"We're also here because it's the last week before we head to Italy for some fun. I love it here; it's beautiful, but things can be pricey," said the visitors.
Several families from the Călărași district decided to take a boat trip.
"It's within our budget; it's possible to relax in Moldova too. Prices are high everywhere, but we want to support our country."
"There are so many beautiful places in Moldova that people aren't aware of. This is our first time here, and we are excited to explore," said visitors.
"The prices for a boat ride start at 150 lei per person, while children pay 50 lei. This way, visitors can enjoy the scenic hills, the island, and the beautiful houses along the banks of the Nistru. We play music, and if there are fewer people, they can even dance," explained Veaceslav Mihailov, the boatman.
The lifeguards were on alert, particularly due to the behavior of some visitors.
"Just today, at 11:00 AM, a little boy almost drowned about 20 meters downstream from us. One of our divers, Condur Alexei, stepped in to help. Until 6:00 PM, families generally behave appropriately and enjoy their time. After 6:00 PM, however, we see a different crowd—some of the strongest locals trying to cross the Nistru or engaging in less appropriate behavior at the beach and in the water," noted Ghenadie Gherman, a lifeguard.
The summer season at Vadul lui Vodă officially opened at the end of May. Since then, the beach has become increasingly crowded every weekend, especially on hot days. A boat captain and two divers supervise the rescue station. Visitors are advised not to enter the water while intoxicated, and parents are encouraged to supervise their children at all times.
