Eliud Kipchoge fails to win 12th marathon, finishes ninth

Paris Olympic champion Sifan Hassan won the Sydney Marathon. The Dutch athlete, who was born in Ethiopia, dominated the race from start to finish, clocking a new record of 2:18:22.
She finished ahead of Kenya's Brigid Kosgei, the former Tokyo Olympic champion, with Ethiopia's Workenesh Edesa Gurmesa in third.
In the men's race, Ethiopia’s Hailemaryam Kiros also ran a record-breaking time of 2:06:06, beating his compatriot Addisu Gobena by around 10 seconds. Legendary Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, who was seeking to win a 12th major marathon, could only finish ninth.
