In 2022, more than two million Moldovans called the 112 service
European Emergency Number Day is traditionally marked on 11 February. A 112 operator can handle up to 300 calls during working hours, and the average processing time for an emergency call in 2022 is 52 seconds. Last year alone, this single number was called 2.3 million times, Ana Carpovici, public relations specialist at the 112 service, told Radio Moldova station.

The single 112 number for emergency calls has been operating 24 hours a day since March 2018. More than 80 operators work in five shifts to make this service operational. Daniel Garabagiu has been working here for two years and told Radio Moldova that he does not regret choosing this path.
"I strive to forget every call, no matter how gram or emotional it may be. It's emotional when it's about children, and parents can't communicate the information. You have to react quickly to get crews where they need to be."
Marina Damaschin also tells us that she has long wanted to become a 112 operator, and this dream became a reality four months ago.
"I always wanted to help people. I am a teacher by profession. This is where I found myself. When I leave work, I feel fulfilled because I have done something useful."
Every year, European 112 emergency day is marked in all countries where the service exists. In Moldova, information sessions are organised, students from various educational institutions visit 112 operators and various events are organised dedicated to this service, said Ana Carpovici, public relations specialist at the 112 service.
"Every year, on 11 February, we mark the single 112 number day. This day was introduced to inform citizens about this emergency number and also about the usefulness of the number."
The pan-European emergency number 112 was created in 1991. In the Republic of Moldova, the single national service for emergency calls 112 started in March 2018. This number is only reserved for calls requiring immediate intervention by emergency services. Citizens can dial 112 to contact the police, medical services and fire brigade.
112 is a provision of the Association Agreement with the European Union.
