MEP Ramona Strugariu: The Republic of Moldova undergoes a very important test of political adulthood

The Republic of Moldova is passing a very important test of political maturity, says Ramona Strugariu, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament delegation to the EU-Republic of Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee. She says that the pro-European path of the Republic of Moldova must continue with the same determination as before and gives assurances that the EU will be with our country in this process.

"Moldova is an EU candidate country. This is due to the joint Presidency-government effort. This balance has to continue, the reforms have to continue, the Republic of Moldova is passing a very important test of political maturity now. (...) The pro-European path of state reform must continue with the same determination as before. People expect stability and solutions", according to Ramona Strugariu.

The MEP thanked acting Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița for the good cooperation at European level and expressed confidence that "this would continue".

"Thank you, Natalia, for all your effort, for your courage and all the good things you have done to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union. We stay together", Ramona Strugariu, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, concluded.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița announced her resignation on Friday 10 February, after almost a year and a half in office. On the same day, President Maia Sandu appointed current presidential advisor Dorin Recean as her candidate for prime minister. He is expected to seek a vote of confidence from Parliament on his work programme and the entire government list within 15 days of his nomination.

The law on the Government stipulates that the resignation of the Prime Minister automatically entails the resignation of the entire cabinet of ministers. According to constitutional provisions, the programme of activities and the list of the new Government are debated in the Parliament. The legislature grants confidence to the executive by a majority vote of the elected deputies.
