More than 100 arrest warrants released in Turkey in relation to building standards

Prosecutors investigating building standards in Turkey have issued more than 100 arrest warrants in the wake of the earthquake disaster, reports the BBC.

The confirmed death toll has now reached more than 28,000. Thousands of buildings have collapsed in south-eastern Turkey following previous earthquakes, despite strict regulations.

A property developer has reportedly been taken into custody at Istanbul airport over a residential complex that collapsed in the city of Gaziantep. Another developer was arrested in northern Cyprus.

The Turkish Justice Ministry has ordered the ten affected provinces to set up earthquake investigation departments, stating that it was crucial to take immediate steps to collect evidence.
