MEP: Republic of Moldova pursues efforts to join the EU
The Republic of Moldova succeeded so far to face the challenges and crises it is facing in the context of the war in Ukraine, MEP Ramona Strugariu, vice-chair of the European Parliament delegation to the European Union-Moldova parliamentary association committee, told Vocea Basarabiei.
Ramona Strugariu considers that Moldova is still working towards integration and the European Union is going to support Moldova with financial aid. The MEP underlined the signing of new agreements between the Republic of Moldova and the EU aimed at improving the situation of citizens and the country, as well as harmonising the legislative framework with the European one.
"I wouldn't listen to claims that in certain sectors Ukraine, Georgia, or in certain sectors the Republic of Moldova does better. Naturally there are different developments, that Natalia Gavrilița's Plan for 2030 and the Development Strategy have given signals of confidence to foreign partners. These are not results that can be achieved overnight, as you have witnessed, I believe, from the European Union's reaction when the question arose of providing concrete financial support and signing new agreements. I would not say that there is a clear sign that the Republic of Moldova is going backwards or that it is not respecting these engagements, I do not think that any of these three countries is respecting them", said MEP Ramona Strugariu.
Three agreements between Moldova and the European Union were signed this week in Brussels on customs, tax and health cooperation. During the 7th meeting of the Republic of Moldova-European Union Association Council, held on 7 February, the European partners reiterated their support for our country's accession to the EU.
The Republic of Moldova received the status of candidate country to the EU last June.
