Syrian authorities agree to open two new border crossing points to receive humanitarian aid
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has agreed to open two new border crossings between Turkey and northwestern Syria for three months for the passage of humanitarian aid to earthquake victims, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Monday, informs Agerpres.
"I welcome the decision of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to open the two Bab Al-Salam and Al Ra'ee crossings between Turkey and northwestern Syria for an initial period of three months," Antonio Guterres said in a press release.
The Syrian president announced this decision to the head of UN humanitarian operations, Martin Griffiths, whom he met earlier in the day in Damascus, an announcement which Martin Griffiths made to the Security Council which met on Monday afternoon to discuss the humanitarian situation from Syria, a United Nations source told AFP.
