Volodymyr Zelensky: They are fighting "for every meter of land" in Donetsk and Luhansk regions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his traditional daily speech, announced an "extremely difficult" situation in the east, in front of Russian troops, who have gained ground in recent weeks, especially near Bahmut, reports Agerpres.

"The situation on the front line, especially in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, remains extremely difficult. It is literally a battle for every meter of Ukrainian land," Volodymyr Zelensky said in his video speech on Tuesday evening. A town of about 70,000 before the Russian offensive began nearly a year ago, Bahmut is largely destroyed after six months of fighting, which has inflicted heavy casualties on both sides. Even though its strategic importance is disputed, the city has acquired the status of a symbol of the struggle between Moscow and Kiev for control of the Donetsk industrial region. The Ukrainian presidency on Monday admitted a "complicated" situation in the town of Paraskovievka, only about 10 km from the center of Bahmut, which "is facing intense Russian shelling and attacks".
