Court is examining evidence in the Babutchi case

A new hearing is underway in the case of Babutchi, the businesswoman who died earlier this year during an illegal surgery at a beauty salon in Chisinau. The court is reviewing the evidence presented by prosecutors, who are seeking prison sentences of up to five years for the anesthesiologist and nurse involved in the incident. The victim's husband has vowed to continue pursuing justice until it is served.

The case is complex, the prosecutor in charge said. The defendants do not admit their guilt, so the examination will take time.
"-There are many witnesses, respectively, it will take time. - How many are there? - There are around 30 witnesses. They do not admit their guilt. Accordingly, the case is examined in general procedure, with the examination of the prosecution's evidence initially, and then those of the defense", explains prosecutor Ştefan Ciupercă.
The anesthesiologist and the nurse are accused of illegally practicing medicine, an act that resulted in the death of the patient. The intervention was performed in a beauty salon in the center of the capital that was not accredited to perform medical procedures. According to the investigation, the 35-year-old woman died as a result of an embolism.
The deceased woman's husband, Roman Babutchi, says that the defendants tried to mislead the investigation.
"They tried to hide many traces, but the police and the prosecutor's office succeeded, they made a great effort to collect all the evidence. Many asked me if any of them apologized: the only one who apologized was Natalia Socoliuc. Irina Borodkina and Ecaterina Maniuc, on the contrary, are making false statements about me", the man says.
According to prosecutors, Irina Borodkina is a citizen of Ukraine, owner of the beauty salon. She fled the Republic of Moldova and is on international wanted list.
