Opinion: “The new government must pursue three key goals to join the EU”

Austria remains an active partner in our country's European integration process. To achieve membership in the European Union (EU) by 2028 or 2030, the new government should concentrate on three key objectives. First and foremost, it should focus on reforming the judiciary. These remarks were made by the Austrian ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Stella Avallone, during the "Dimensiunea Diplomatica" program on Moldova 1 TV.
“The first and most important objective for the Republic of Moldova is to complete the justice reform, including the vetting process, as well as to combat corruption. The second objective is to consolidate the economy, increase the Republic of Moldova's competitiveness in the European context, and prepare for integration into the internal market of the European Union. The third objective is to strengthen internal capacities - financial, but especially human resources”, said Ambassador Stella Avallone.
The Ambassador also spoke about the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Austria.
“Austria supports the Republic of Moldova at the institutional, economic, social, educational, cultural and security levels. For example, an EU Twinning project is currently underway with the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, coordinated by the Parliament of Greece and involving the parliaments of Austria, Italy, Romania and Hungary. The goal is to strengthen the institutional capacities of the Moldovan Parliament in view of accession to the European Union”, mentioned Stella Avallone.
In the economic field, Austrian companies share their experience with European standards with partners in the Republic of Moldova.
In the social and educational field, Austria supports the approximation to European standards, especially through reforms in vocational education.
In the cultural field, a scholarship program has been launched for young Moldovan artists, who can apply until November 7 for a residency at the Museum Quarter in Vienna, where they can connect with other European artists.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Austria were established on March 25, 1992.
