Pensions will not be indexed in 2023 by 30% according to the law. Details of the Minister of Labor and Social Protection

The state does not have enough money to cover inflation, given that there is no economic growth, so pensions could only be indexed by 14% next year, said the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Marcel Spatari, in a show RLIVE. According to the official, currently the priority of the authorities is to increase the salaries of budget officers in 2023.

"We index pensions annually so that we can maintain purchasing power for pensioners. If we were to increase to 30 percent as the law says, then we would have to find this money from somewhere else and increase the deficit in the state social security budget, money that is necessary for pensioners, but which is also necessary for employees and for investments . The number one priority now is wage increases, which should be right from the beginning of next year, because in the last year, especially in the budget sector, wages have increased very little. If pensions were favoured, especially small pensions, then salaries really lagged far behind inflation". We remind you that in April 2022, the pension indexation coefficient was around 14%, being calculated based on the inflation rate from the end of 2021.
