The Moldovan rescuers who went on an international mission in Turkey returned this morning to the Republic of Moldova through the Giurgiulesti - Galați border crossing point. They crossed the state border with priority and under a facilitated regime, the Border Police announces. IGSU employees will also be welcomed today by Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
During the international mission, Moldovan rescuers managed to remove a 3-year-old boy from the ruins alive, after he had been in the ruins of a damaged building for more than 4 days. The Moldovan specialists also carried out evaluation works of the buildings and the recovery of the bodies, forming mixed groups with rescuers from Hungary, Mexico, the Netherlands and Turkey. The death toll from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria exceeds 41,000 - a figure that could rise dramatically, local authorities warned.
