Maia Sandu revoked state awards from Judo Federation president Andrei Golban and a coach

President Maia Sandu revoked the state awards from Andrei Golban, the president of the Judo Federation of the Republic of Moldova, and coach Grigore Postica.
The decree was signed by the President on December 5 and published on the Presidency website. It takes effect immediately upon signing.
Additionally, we remind you that the awards for Andrei Golban and Grigore Postica were presented by President Maia Sandu on October 10, following a proposal from the Ministry of Education and Research.
According to Ziarul de Garda, in 2016, Andrei Golban was detained by law enforcement authorities on suspicion of extorting over 13 million Russian rubles through blackmail, along with a performance athlete and a former police officer, from a Moldovan individual working in the Russian Federation.
The case went to court, where Golban was initially acquitted. However, the appeals court later found him guilty of arbitrariness.
The case was then brought before the Supreme Court of Justice, which ordered the file to be sent for retrial. In 2022, Andrei Golban was acquitted by the Centru Court of Appeal. He maintains his innocence, claiming that the case against him is fabricated.
