Reimbursement list expanded: three new preparations included beginning January 1

Starting January 1, patients with diabetes, hypertension, or conditions requiring anticoagulant treatment will be able to request three new medications covered by mandatory medical insurance funds.

The list of medications will now include a combination medicine containing Sitagliptin + Metformin, which will be partially reimbursed. This medication helps control blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of complications.

The National Health Insurance Company estimates that approximately 8,000 patients will benefit from this medication.

For patients with high blood pressure, a new combined preparation containing Valsartan (160 mg) + Hydrochlorothiazide (12.5 mg) will be offered free of charge.

Additionally, Apixaban, available in 2.5 mg and 5 mg doses, will be added to the list as a partially compensated medication. This anticoagulant is used to prevent blood clots and is recommended for individuals undergoing surgery and for patients with deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

Each year, approximately 1,600 individuals will benefit from this treatment. The National Health Insurance Company will allocate 4.7 million lei for these initiatives.

The government has recently promoted changes in the legislative framework to enhance access to reimbursed medications. One significant change aims to eliminate the rule that allowed prescribing medications only for a single diagnosis on an electronic prescription.

Additionally, the validity period for prescriptions for acute diseases will be extended from 10 to 15 days, and patients will be permitted to collect reimbursed medications gradually, without restrictions on the number of pharmacy visits.
