The government is speeding up the launch of the largest wind power auction in the country’s history, which will include mandatory energy storage, to meet the European Union's deadline. This stage is crucial for ensuring a transparent and competitive process, as the auction targets the most extensive round of wind power projects in the country’s history. This was announced by the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, during the December 8 edition of the ÎN CONTEXT show on Moldova 1 TV.

According to an official statement, the members of the Tender Commission convened today for their first meeting to review the documentation.

"We will be offering 170 megawatts of wind capacity for auction, along with energy storage capacities—specifically, battery systems to store the energy produced by these wind power plants. We have set a deadline of Thursday, December 11, for potential investors to submit their observations. Afterward, we will hold a broader meeting with all interested parties to discuss these observations and comments. This will help us finalize the tender document. At the beginning of next year, we will begin all phases of the bidding process, analyze the bids, and subsequently, the winning bidders will start constructing the designated capacities," emphasized Minister Dorin Junghietu.

Additionally, the next meeting of the Tender Commission is scheduled for December 15. The Ministry of Energy notes that the limited timeframe for consultations stems from commitments made by the Government of the Republic of Moldova through a Letter of Intent signed on February 4 with members of the European Commission, which mandates that the auction for granting the status of large eligible producer be launched by the end of the year.
