Maia Sandu will visit Cyprus, the next EU Council president

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is scheduled to make an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus on December 12. Cyprus will assume the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026.
The visit is taking place at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides.
The agenda includes meetings with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou.
Discussions will focus on the Republic of Moldova's European path and the next steps in its EU accession process.
Additionally, the talks will address opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation, according to a press release from the Presidency in Chisinau.
The presidency of the Council of the European Union rotates among EU Member States every six months. From July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, Denmark will hold the presidency, after which Cyprus will take over starting January 1, 2026.
