Alexandru Machidon was heard by the Prosecutors Evaluation Commission

Acting Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon was partially heard during a closed session by the Prosecutors Evaluation Commission. He had requested that the second aspect of his integrity be examined in a closed session, but the Commission rejected this request. The hearings are set for December 10 as part of a comprehensive vetting process for prosecutors, which includes evaluating their integrity, assets, and professionalism. On the same day, Prosecutor Vasile Plevan from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office was also heard.
Panel A of the Commission examined detailed information about the evaluated prosecutors collected from various official sources, including the National Integrity Authority, the State Fiscal Service, the Border Police, financial and banking institutions, open sources, and other public institutions and economic agents. Each prosecutor in question had previously responded to four rounds of written questions.
After reviewing this information, the Commission informed the subjects about existing doubts that required additional clarifications, with two specific aspects for each evaluated individual.
In the case of Alexandru Machidon, Panel A decided that the first issue concerning his integrity would be discussed in a closed session, while the second issue would be examined in a public session. The prosecutor's request to keep both topics confidential was rejected.
For anti-corruption prosecutor Vasile Plevan, the Panel agreed to analyze both aspects in a closed session.
"I believe that this evaluation process is crucial for strengthening the institution of integrity and enhancing public trust in the Prosecutor's Office," declared Alexandru Machidon at the conclusion of the hearing.
The Commission will announce its decisions on the integrity of prosecutors after completing all procedural stages.
We remind you that the Chairman of the Vetting Commission, Christopher Lehmann, previously stated that the Prosecutor General's file would be prioritized in the external evaluation process concerning the ethical and financial integrity of prosecutors. He remarked that the analysis of the Prosecutor General is "a complex one" and entails examining a substantial amount of information over a period of ten years.
Alexandru Machidon was appointed Acting Prosecutor General on May 28 by a presidential decree signed by President Maia Sandu. He is a prosecutor with extensive experience in management positions within the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Moldova. He has served as Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Criuleni District Prosecutor's Office and at the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, as well as Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Orhei District Prosecutor's Office.
In 2024, he was appointed Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, holding this position on an interim basis.
The position of Prosecutor General has remained vacant since Ion Munteanu was appointed as a judge at the Supreme Court of Justice.
