Elections

Mașcăuți and Sărătenii Vechi villages will hold local elections on May 17

Voters in Mașcăuți, Criuleni district, and Sărătenii Vechi, Telenești district, will go to the polls on May 17 next spring to elect their mayors. The Central Electoral Commission made the decision at its meeting on December 16.

The mayoral mandates in Mașcăuți and Sărătenii Vechi became vacant following the resignations of Valeriu Carțîn and Veronica Cupcea, who were elected as alternate deputies to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) list. The Constitutional Court validated their parliamentary mandates on November 6.

Under Moldovan electoral law, new local elections in localities where a mandate becomes vacant before the end of the term can be held at most twice a year, typically in spring and autumn. For the upcoming spring, the Central Electoral Commission has scheduled these elections for May 17.

On the same date, residents of Costești village and Ruseștii Noi commune in Ialoveni district will also vote in new mayoral elections. The mayors in these localities resigned to take up their parliamentary mandates: Ilie Ionaș of PAS and Valentina Meșină of the Democracy at Home faction.
