MAI: Investigation into Centru IP incident continues

It is too early to discuss potential new resignations. This was the reaction of Daniella Misail-Nichitin, the Minister of Internal Affairs (MAI), following the incident at the Centru Police Inspectorate (IP) on December 19. According to the minister, the policeman involved in the shooting used his personal firearm. Additionally, she stated that she was informed about the incident on the same day it happened.

Daniella Misail-Nichitin stated that not enough time has passed since the start of the service investigation to discuss any potential resignations.

"The criminal case is currently under review by the prosecutor's office. I learned about it on the same day that I was informed by the leadership of the General Inspectorate of Police. The case involves a personal firearm; while the weapon provided was not discharged, three shots were fired. Since only three days have passed since the initiation of the service investigation, let's allow sufficient time to clarify all the circumstances and make objective decisions," said the Minister of Internal Affairs.

Following the incident, the head of the unit, Lilian Luca, and his deputy, Sergiu Muruz, were dismissed. The case was brought to public attention by MP Vasile Costiuc, who stated that the two police officers allegedly got into a fight after a party celebrating Police Professional Day. During the altercation, one of the officers reportedly pulled out a gun and fired shots. The General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) clarified that on the day of the incident, no conflicts were reported among employees or civilians at the Centru Police Inspectorate headquarters.
