Protests financed with over 1.4 million lei: Shor-affiliated activist sentenced to prison

The former secretary of the Râșcani territorial office of the "Shor" party, which was declared unconstitutional in June 2023, has been sentenced to prison. He was accused of receiving over 1.4 million lei for the party's illegal activities, including organizing protests and paying participants. The sentence was issued by the Chișinău Court in Buiucani, on December 23.
The court has imposed a four-year prison sentence, of which only two years will be served in custody. The remaining two years of the sentence are suspended conditionally, with a two-year probation period.
Additionally, the defendant is prohibited from holding any positions or engaging in financial management and administrative activities for political parties for a period of four years.
Until the final sentence is delivered, the defendant will remain in pretrial detention.
Furthermore, the court has ordered the confiscation of over 1.4 million lei, which was used to commit the crime, to be forfeited to the state.
Investigators determined that the funds were derived from illegal activities and were used to finance the political party's activities, including organizing protests and compensating participants, with the intent of influencing political processes in the Republic of Moldova.
We remind you that the "Shor" Political Party was removed from the State Register of Legal Entities in January 2024.
