Diplomatic push: Moldova counters domestic criticism with high-level US engagement

Moldovan Ambassador to the United States, Vlad Kulminski, has announced that a high-level meeting is being prepared to strengthen bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States.

The announcement followed a significant meeting between the Moldovan diplomat and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Strategic engagement and technical preparation

According to Kulminski, the Moldovan-American dialogue will continue at both technical and political levels. Specialized teams from both nations are working toward an official meeting designed to deliver tangible results for both parties.

The Ambassador emphasized that representing Moldova in Washington remains a "profound and personal responsibility."

"I perform this role with respect for the people of my country and the conviction that Moldova deserves to be heard, understood, and treated with seriousness," Kulminski stated.

Addressing domestic political friction

The meeting took place approximately three weeks after a high-level Moldovan delegation visited the U.S. That delegation included Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi.

While the previous visit included meetings with the National Security Council and the State Department, the delegation did not meet with Secretary Marco Rubio at that time. This absence triggered criticism from the Moldovan opposition, who characterized the trip as a "squandering of public funds."

Defending the diplomatic process

Ambassador Kulminski dismissed the criticism, suggesting that detractors do not fully grasp the mechanics of U.S. diplomacy. He noted that such high-level meetings require extensive preparatory work to ensure concrete outcomes.

"In diplomacy, one must work on the agenda of such a meeting so that it produces specific results," Kulminski explained during a broadcast on RLIVE.

Vlad Kulminski was appointed as Moldova's Ambassador to the United States via a presidential decree on June 27, 2025.
