Warning for drivers. Dangerous weather conditions and a higher risk of accidents

Unfavorable weather conditions over recent hours have caused major traffic disruptions on several road sections across the Republic of Moldova. According to the National Police, ice and black ice continue to form on road surfaces, sharply reducing traction and increasing the risk of traffic accidents.

In this context, law enforcement officers warn drivers about traffic hazards and urge maximum caution. “Ice affects several road sections, which sharply reduces road grip and increases the risk of traffic accidents,” the police state.

To prevent incidents, drivers should adjust their driving to winter conditions, especially by reducing speed and increasing the distance from the vehicle ahead. The police also advise drivers to avoid hard braking, sudden maneuvers, and overtaking, which can become extremely dangerous on slippery roads.

Drivers should avoid travel if their vehicles lack proper winter equipment and should check that lighting and signalling systems work properly. Extra caution applies in high risk areas such as pedestrian crossings, bridges, ramps, and curves.

“The National Police urge all road users to act responsibly and patiently to prevent traffic incidents and reach their destination safely,” the institution adds.

In emergencies or when help is needed, citizens should call the single emergency number 112.
