Municipal services struggle to clear roads as winter weather hits Moldova’s capital

Chisinau municipal services worked overnight to clear roads and manage emergency situations following heavy winds and wet snow.

City authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as weather warnings remain in effect. The primary objective is to maintain safe traffic conditions across all sectors of the capital.

Priority routes and public safety

Road maintenance teams focused on primary and secondary streets, prioritizing public transport routes and main entrances to the city. Crews applied de-icing agents and utilized specialized machinery to clear the slush from the pavement.

Simultaneously, public utility teams intervened at bus stations, pedestrian crossings, and high-traffic residential areas. These efforts aim to prevent ice formation and ensure safe movement for residents.

Ongoing interventions and public warnings

The Green Spaces Service is currently clearing pathways and alleys in city parks. Officials announced that operations will continue throughout the day, adjusting to the evolving weather conditions.

Local authorities urge both drivers and pedestrians to exercise maximum caution on the roads. Parents are specifically advised to closely supervise children during the current school holiday period.

Emergency contact information

Meteorologists forecast continued unstable weather, characterized by strong winds and sleet.

In case of weather-related emergencies, citizens can contact the municipal central dispatch at (022) 22-22-67 or (022) 22-26-04.
