PM Alexandru Munteanu pledges expanded welfare and dialogue for Nistru conflict survivors
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing social protections for war veterans and their families.
During a high-level meeting with veterans' associations, the Premier emphasized that supporting those who fought for the country's integrity remains a top national priority.
Expanding financial support
The Moldovan administration has significantly increased monthly allowances over the past four years. Payments for war veterans rose from 500 MDL to €90 (approx. 1,770 MDL), while those with disabilities saw their support climb from 575 MDL to approximately €115 (2,254 MDL).
"We recognize that these figures are not yet sufficient," PM Munteanu stated. "However, these actions prove our resolve to rectify a historical grievance and gradually increase the income of those who defended our sovereignty."
Preserving national identity
Beyond financial aid, the Prime Minister highlighted the symbolic importance of the 1992 Nistru conflict survivors. He described the veterans as "ambassadors for peace" whose experiences are essential for educating younger generations and shaping Moldova's national identity.
To ensure a faster response to the community's needs, the government is currently evaluating the implementation of the Law on Veterans, which came into effect this year. New communication platforms are being developed to create an efficient consultation mechanism between the Executive and veterans' representatives.
