New digital health updates in Moldova simplify access to reimbursed medicines

The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) has upgraded Moldova's digital e-prescription system with 14 new functionalities.
These improvements aim to speed up medical delivery and increase safety for both doctors and patients nationwide.
Streamlined medical procedures
Doctors can now input medical data more efficiently and include multiple diagnoses on a single digital prescription. This update significantly reduces human error by automating compliance with reimbursement rules and price caps.
Patients also gain flexibility, as they can now partially fill their prescriptions across multiple pharmacy visits. This eliminates previous restrictions that required a single-use transaction for all prescribed items.
Automated health alerts
A key innovation is the integration of the MNotify government platform to alert eligible women about cervical screening. These automated notifications aim to increase awareness and support the early detection of cervical cancer.
The modernization was implemented with the support of the European Union, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO). The project also strengthens anti-fraud measures and optimizes the settlement process between pharmacies and CNAM.
National digital coverage
The "e-Prescription for reimbursed medicines and medical devices" system was officially launched in April 2025. It is now operational across all levels of the healthcare system.
The electronic system is accessible to all physicians, including those in emergency rooms and home-based palliative care. To receive their medication, citizens only need to present their national ID card at any partner pharmacy.
